Division with remainder on the TI-108: Two examples

Example 1.

Task.

Divide 92 into 1684 and write down the quotient and remainder.

Keystrokes:            Display:          Write down:
[1684][M+][÷][92][=] 18.304347 18
[18][*][92][M-]   1656
[MRC] 28 remainder 28

Answer: Division of 92 into 1684 returns a quotient of 18, and a remainder of 28.

Check the computation:

[18][*][92][+][28][=] returns 1684.

Example 2.

Task.

Divide 137 into 26010 and write down the quotient and remainder.

Keystrokes:            Display:          Write down:
[26010][M+][÷][137][=] 189.85401 189
[189][*][137][M-]   25893
[MRC] 117 remainder 117

Answer: If you divide 26010 by 137, you get a quotient of 189 and a remainder of 117.

Check the computation:

[189][*][137][+][117][=] gives 26010.

Can you explain what we are doing in these examples?
